RWAMREC Leadership Training on Engaging Men in GBV Prevention
RWAMREC organized a leadership training and consultation in 2007 to engage men in eliminating gender-based violence (GBV), bringing together Rwandan leaders, civil society representatives, and international delegates.
In the fall of 2007, RWAMREC, with support from individual donor Dean Cyon, conducted a leadership training and consultations on engaging men in GBV prevention. The training was facilitated by Steven Botkin, James Arana, and Adin Thayer and attended by nearly 40 participants, including:
Founding members of RWAMREC
Representatives from ProFemme
Community members and government officials
Delegates from Zambia and Nigeria
The training focused on strategies to involve men as allies in preventing gender-based violence, building leadership skills, and promoting positive masculinities. It served as a foundational step in RWAMREC’s work on male engagement in gender equality, strengthening networks, and creating a shared vision for addressing GBV in Rwanda and beyond.
