Girls’ Future Through Education and Financial Education Training

The Girls’ Future Through Education and Financial Education Training project, funded by Plan International, aimed to help girls stay in school and successfully transition through their education by engaging students, teachers, and parents. The project promoted gender equality, positive masculinities, and GBV prevention while creating safe and supportive school environments in Bugesera and Nyaruguru districts.

The Girls’ Future Through Education and Financial Education Training project was implemented between July 2016 and June 2017, with support from Plan International. Its main objective was to ensure that girls could continue and complete their education by promoting gender equality, preventing gender-based violence (GBV), and fostering financial literacy among students in five model schools.

Key activities included:

  • Savings groups: 15 savings groups of 20 students each were established and became fully operational, collectively saving 493,500 Rwf.

  • Training: 150 boys and 150 girls were trained on positive masculinities and GBV prevention across all five schools.

  • Outreach campaigns: 10 campaigns led by students were conducted to raise awareness about gender equality and GBV prevention in their communities.

By combining education, financial literacy, and gender training, the project strengthened students’ skills, promoted safer and more equitable school environments, and empowered both girls and boys to actively participate in creating positive social change.
