Engaging Men as Partners in Promoting Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in Rwanda

RWAMREC, under the MenEngage Network and with UNDP support, implemented a project to engage men as partners in promoting gender equality and preventing gender-based violence in Rwanda.

From November 2009 to October 2011, RWAMREC, under the MenEngage Network, implemented the project “Engaging Men as Partners in Promoting Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in Rwanda”, with financial support from UNDP.

The project aimed to promote gender equality and prevent GBV by mobilizing men and boys as active partners in transforming harmful gender norms, reducing violence, and fostering positive masculinities. Through community outreach, training, and advocacy, the initiative built the capacity of men, local leaders, and community groups to support women’s empowerment and challenge discriminatory practices.

This project played a key role in laying the groundwork for RWAMREC’s national engagement model on positive masculinity and male involvement in GBV prevention, aligning with Rwanda’s broader gender equality agenda.
