Vice Chair

Justine Mirembe is a gender equality and social inclusion consultant based in Rwanda. She has more than 21 years of experience in policy analysis and review, gender and disability mainstreaming, and capacity development in international, regional, and national development. She specializes in intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention and women's rights advocacy.

Mirembe holds master's degrees in Peacebuilding and Gender and Development, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. She is also a published researcher, having contributed to studies on IPV, including co-authoring the article "Intersectionalities of formality of marital status and women's risk and protective factors for intimate partner violence in Rwanda," which examines how marital status influences women's access to rights and their vulnerability to IPV. Her work highlights the need to address barriers to formalizing marriages—such as financial constraints and gender inequalities—to foster equitable, violence-free relationships in Rwanda.

Currently, Justine Mirembe serves as Vice Chair of the RWAMREC Board of Directors.
