GEWEP II

An integrated initiative advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment through economic empowerment, literacy, community-level social change, and CSO capacity building.

Implemented from July 2016–2020 with funding from CARE International, GEWEP II worked across multiple sectors in Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, Nyanza, Gisagara, Huye, Nyamagabe, and Nyaruguru. The project supported couples to transform relationships affected by violence, established men’s engagement clubs in 87 sectors, and trained 320 couples and 320 opinion leaders on community activism and GBV prevention. Forty male facilitators were trained to use holy scripture messaging for advocacy. The initiative enabled women to explore their rights, strengthened support from local leaders and spouses, and encouraged male engagement in entrepreneurship and VSLA support.
