Gakenke District

RWAMREC visited Rushashi-Ruli sectors to digitally-document “anti” gender based violence (GBV) experiences of 12 former RWAMREC trainees; as well as to assess RWAMREC’s training impact on them, especially with regards to welfare of their families.

Participants expressed that their “RWAMREC training” experience equipped them with anti-GBV knowledge; and as a result of this knowledge, their personal finances and mutual living grew.

For example, one female participant shared that before her RWAMREC training, she thought of committing suicide due to impoverishment and her husband’s violent behavior towards her. Afterwards, she declined this thought because of a newly-found harmony with her husband as well as an active role in her home finances and farm life—–this participant managed also to save enough money to purchase electricity for her family. Another testimony given was by a male participant who started a joint bank account with his wife (after his RWAMREC training).

This documentary was made possible by the United States of America Embassy Kigali; two RWAMREC staff members, one RWAMREC international volunteer, and two RWAMREC national volunteers were present to provide key support such as facilitation, observation, coordination and implementation.
